Hickory area residents do their part to curb electronic waste!

Hickory -- Hundreds of people from Hickory and nearby communities drove to the Lowes Foods store on 29th Ave Dr. NE to drop off their old electronic devices for recycling. Hundreds of old televisions, computers and other electronic gadgets were collected by the Goodwill, in conjuction with "Do Your Part" and WBTV on Saturday and Sunday.

The event was a huge success, with 15 semi-truck trailer filled for recycling. The Goodwill will refurbish and resell what it can to support its charitable efforts. Other items will be recycled using environmentally approved methods. The goal is to keep electronic waste out of public landfills where they can present environmental problems from the metals and chemicals used in manufacturing.
