Prom season kickoff: Drive to Live 2013
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- The North Carolina Highway Patrol is conducting Operation: Drive to Live to kickoff prom season.
Operation: Drive to Live involves troopers enforcing traffic laws around schools and holding traffic safety education programs at high schools around the state.
The operation starts Monday, April 15 from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m. all week.
According to National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, young drivers, ages 15- to 20-years old, are more vulnerable to death and injury on our roadways – traffic crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers in America and North Carolina.
Mile for mile, teenagers are involved in three times as many fatal crashes as all other drivers. Over 50% of teens killed in car crashes weren't using their seat belts.
