In recognition of the thousands of homeless dogs and cats in Mecklenburg County, the Humane Society of Charlotte is hosting its largest annual fundraiser, the Pet Palooza dog walk, Kennelly 5K run and pet festival to support the organization’s mission. This year’s event promises something for everyone including:

• Vendor Fair with over 40 vendors
• Fido Fashion Show starring HSC Alumni Pups
• Human Hamster Racing
• Agility Demonstrations
• Flyball Demonstrations
• $10 Microchipping
• Palm & Paw Readings
• People and Pet Massages
• Paw Print Paintings with Your Pet
• Souvenir Photo Booth

The 2012 Pet Palooza Corporate Event Chair is George Beckwtih, who serves as Chief Financial Officer of National Gypsum Company in Charlotte. In addition to his work with the Humane Society of Charlotte, serving on our Board of Directors, he serves the Charlotte community as Chair of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities Advisory Board.

The event will be held on Saturday, May 5h, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Independence Park in the Elizabeth Neighborhood. The 5k run will start off the event at 8 a.m. and will be followed by the pet walk at 8:30 a.m.

In 2011 the Humane Society of Charlotte touched the lives of over 12,000 animals and their families through adoption and spay/neuter services as well as through animal behavior outreach efforts. In 2011, the Humane Society found homes for over 2,100 animals, an average of 40 per week, which is the highest adoption rate in the organization’s history. They also performed 10,088 spay/neuter surgeries. The Humane Society of Charlotte will continue its mission and expects to see similar numbers in 2012.
