BURKE COUNTY, NC (WBTV)- Deputies with the Burke County Sheriff's Office are investigating several copper thefts in the area, and offering a reward for any information leading to an arrest.

Between November 26, and January 16, both the Rutherford Electric and Duke Power Corporations reported a total of ten breaking and enterings to their substations in Burke County.

The incidents happened three times at River Road, twice at Mineral Springs Mountain Road and Piedmont Road, and once at Shuford Road, Mill Race Road, and George Hildebran School Road.

Deputies say the thieves are cutting the locks off of gates and storage trailers, or cutting through the chain linked fences, stealing copper each time.

So far, a total of $6,395 of copper has been reported stolen and damage to the substations is estimated at $8,560.

Crimestoppers is offering a $1,000.00 reward for information leading to the arrest of anyone involved in the incidents.

You can call Crimestoppers at (828)437-3333. All callers can remain anonymous.
