Western NC hazardous weather conditions halt road tests at DMV
News

RALEIGH, NC (WBTV)- Slick roadways have caused many DMV
driver license offices to cancel road tests early this morning, and many are
having to curtail operations because of hazardous weather in western North
Carolina.

In addition, several license plate agencies in western North Carolina
have been forced to close due to Friday's winter weather.

The driver license office in Marshall,
located adjacent to the French Broad River, is experiencing severe icing and
has closed for Friday. Express service at the Asheville driver license office
on Patton Avenue will continue as long as possible. Limited service is
available throughout the western part of the state and offices as far east as
Morganton have halted road tests.

License plate agencies that are closing
today include locations in Newland, Morganton, Hickory, North Wilkesboro,
Yancey County, Pisgah Forest, Hayesville, Dobson, Franklin, Sylva, Spruce Pine,
Mt. Airy, Rural Hall, Statesville, Clemmons, Elkin and Yadkinville.

As winter weather continues to move
across the state, the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles expects that
other offices may be forced to close or reduce hours. Customers are advised to
call their local DMV offices before driving to them. Offices are expected to
open Monday on their regular schedules.

Driver license offices administer sign
tests, written tests and road tests used to qualify applicants for a North
Carolina driver license. License plate agencies register vehicles and issue
vehicle titles. Office locations and phone numbers are available at www.ncdot.gov/dmv.
