2012 Charlotte Oktoberfest scheduled for September 29th

Lisa Johnson, Festival Director for the 2012 Charlotte Oktoberfest, visited recently with WBTV anchor Kristen Miranda.  Now's the time to get your tickets...the event has always been a sell-out.  A portion of the proceeds go to charity.  This year’s beneficiaries include Beds for Kids, Crisis Assistance Ministry and the Matthews Free Medical Clinic.

Food Lion Speed Street set to rock Uptown Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Rev your engines!  It's almost time for Food Lion Speed Street!  Get your "fix" for speed at this year's motorsports festival in Uptown Charlotte.  Enjoy live entertainment on a variety of stages, access to some of racing's brightest stars, sponsor displays, interactive displays, children's activities and some of the best street food available.  Look for the WBTV booth along Tryon Street, in front of the Courtyard Mariott Center City (near Third Street).  WBTV personalities will be signing autographs from noon to 2pm and 7 to 8pm Thursday and Friday, and from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday.

Grab a lawn chair, invite your family and friends and enjoy live, family-friendly music at Courthouse Square Friday nights through July 27th.

Food and beverage vendors open at 6pm.

MORGANTON, NC (WBTV) - This special event benefits ALFA's mission to improve the lives and health of those affected by HIV/AIDS while preventing transmission through education and testing. All funds raised during this event stay in Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Lincoln, Watauga and Wilkes Counties.

Morganton wins N.C. Main Street Program awards

MORGANTON - Commerce Secretary J. Keith Crisco presented 21 awards to participants in the N.C. Main Street Program last Thursday and the City of Morganton received two of those honors, a release from the Governors office said.

Morganton won awards in two out of four categories for the 2011 N.C. Main Street Awards. Winners were recognized for excellence in downtown revitalization efforts in categories such as promotion, organization, design and economic restructuring.

In the Economic Restructuring category, the Development Incentive Grant (DIG) Challenge won for Best Business Retention, Expansion or Recruitment Effort.

And in the Design category, The Kaleidoscope project won for Best Outdoor Space Improvement.

Farmers market season coming to an end

Farmers market season coming to an end

BURKE COUNTY - The 2011 Farmers Market season in Burke County is coming to an end. 

The Connelly Springs Farmers Market and the Hildebran Farmers Market closed shop earlier this week.

Folks enjoying local fare at the Morganton Farmers Market at 300 Beach Street have just two more Saturday's to enjoy the goods. The market will close at noon on October 8 until 2012 .
